“I create large-scale, vibrant murals that transforms spaces and reflects the atmosphere they exist in. My work is rooted in design, balance, and connection.”
“I start all of my designs, especially in a new place, with a good amount of research of the area. When I started to think about the design for this piece, it was the same time I had received results from a blood test to determine if I had the BRCA gene mutation (making my chances of getting breast cancer significantly higher).
When diving into Sicily research, and the history of feminine figures important to what Sicily is, I discovered the patron Saint of Sicily is St. Agatha - who just so happens to be the patron saint of breast cancer (as well as SA victims and nurses). Even though portraiture isn't my usual focus, the moment felt too serendipitous to pass up.
As someone who believes in symbolism, spirituality and superstition, I took on the challenge to honor her in this really personal way. I also got the chance to visit her Cathedral in Catania, where the statue I used as a reference stands.
Surrounding Agatha, are basil leaves, an orange tree, and a piece of an architectural scallop - things that embody Cummari and the divine feminine.”
